The Countless Aspects Of Beauty in Ancient Art

2024-10-28

"Beauty" is one of the most ancient yet eternally contemporary concepts in human society. It runs through the entirety of human society, presenting a rich diversity of colors in different cultural contexts and has become an important driving force for the development of human art.

The exhibition "The Diversity of Beauty: Art and Life in Ancient Greece" will take "beauty" as its theme, differing from previous exhibitions that are narratively centered around historical periods. It will unfold the vivid aesthetic tapestry of ancient Greece from three perspectives: "Daily Life," "Adornment," and "The Human Body," challenging the stereotype that "Ancient Greece = Classical Greece." The exhibition features 279 pieces (sets) of representative artifacts from the National Archaeological Museum of Greece, including pottery, bronze ware, gold artifacts, glassware, frescoes, and sculptures, spanning a period of 5,000 years. It covers all significant historical periods of ancient Greece, such as the Cycladic civilization, Minoan civilization, Mycenaean civilization, as well as the Geometric, Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic periods. All exhibits are from the National Archaeological Museum of Greece, with the vast majority making their debut outside of Greece. The sheer number, variety, and high historical and cultural value of the exhibits make this a rare occurrence in recent years for similar exhibitions and are certainly worth looking forward to!
