2025-04-02

From March 29th to April 27th, the 10th Crabapple Spring Flower Cultural Festival at Taoranting Park is in full swing. Over 30 varieties and more than 3000 crabapple trees are blooming beautifully, with roses, fringe flowers, green peaches, and ribbon flowers taking turns to blossom. Visitors can also enjoy over 20 varieties and 500 potted crabapple bonsai.

Visitors can admire the beauty of flowers at night

Taoranting Park has gathered the "Four Famous Varieties of Asiatic Apples" in Chinese tradition - Xifu Asiatic apple, Chuisi Asiatic apple, Tiegeng Asiatic apple, and Papaya Asiatic apple, as well as planting modern varieties such as magnificent and royal Asiatic apples. This year's Asiatic apple blossom cultural festival focuses on the landscape of Asiatic apple trees planted throughout the park. The park has set up themed landscapes in areas such as the east gate square and Taoran archway, incorporating elements such as Asiatic apple flower windows, Chinese-style shadow walls, and freehand brushwork scrolls. Through traditional techniques such as borrowing scenery and creating perspective, an immersive garden landscape of pavilions, stones, flowers, and misty poetic scenes is created.

It is worth mentioning that this year, the exhibition of exquisite Asiatic apple bonsai has been moved outdoors for the first time, expanding the exhibition area and creating a classical courtyard space. In the four exhibition sheds in the central square of the park, visitors can admire over 20 varieties and more than 500 potted exquisite Asiatic apple bonsai. "Last year, the palm-sized exquisite Asiatic apple bonsai was very popular among visitors. This year, we have increased the number of small bonsai, allowing visitors to admire its flower shape, color, and the graceful posture of its branches up close." Wang Jiaqi, a technician from the Taoranting Park Garden Technology Department, introduced. One of the varieties is the multicolored Oriental brocade, which initially blooms white and gradually "turns brocade," with the outer edges of the petals turning light pink and eventually becoming red. Therefore, visitors often come to take photos and witness its changing beauty.

When night falls, citizens and visitors can also experience the enchanting scenery of "Dreamy Flower Shadows Night Tour of Taoranting" along the main road from the east gate to the north gate of the park and on the Xiehu Qiao (Bridge) inside the park. This year, Taoranting Park has designed limited edition stamps for the cultural festival. Visitors can collect stamps as they tour around, leaving behind unique memories.

Activities such as the shadow play "Nezha Conquers the Dragon King" will be performed

In addition to flower viewing, this year's Asiatic apple blossom cultural festival also integrates intangible cultural heritage, reading, magic, and popular science activities, offering visitors a wonderful spring feast.

Visitors can enjoy traditional intangible cultural heritage performances such as Beijing flag dancing, wrestling, and acrobatics, as well as art performances like magic shows and storytelling, and classic shadow puppet plays like "Nezha Conquers the Dragon King" and "Journey to the West." On the WeChat official account of the park, visitors can also sign up for eco-guided tours in spring, guided tours on peony varieties, and other educational activities. They can also visit the "Taoran Spring Flowers" and "Taoran Fireworks" themed markets at the north gate plaza, central plaza, and west pier of the park.

According to Miao Xiangliu, Director of the Service Management Department of the Beijing Municipal Administration Center of Parks, in addition to Taoranting Park, the National Botanical Garden (North Garden), Ritan Park, Olympic Forest Park, and Wanghe Park's peonies will also be gradually opened to the public, showcasing a colorful and beautiful scene. "Currently, the Beijing Tulip Cultural Festival, Cherry Blossom Viewing Season, and Peach Blossom Viewing Season have begun. The Peony Cultural Festival will open tomorrow, and the Beijing city will welcome a colorful and splendid view."
